Archaeology in County Durham

County Durham has a rich history (and prehistory!) that often results in planning applications for new developments or alterations to historic buildings containing archaeological recording requirments. In March 2012 (and revised July 2018), the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) replaced previously existing legislation, providing Durham County Council Archaeology Section and bodies such as Historic England the ability to impose planning conditions to mitigate damage to heritage resources during the planning process.

Based locally in Consett, our small practice are ideally situated to provide professional archaeological services in Durham and beyond. Our solutions range from evaluation, monitoring and excavation schemes to survey, building recording and community projects. We can manage your archaeological project from initial approval from Durham County Council through to completion and publication.
